IBMCP Outreach
In this space, we share content aimed at bringing science closer to society. Through outreach initiatives, materials and activities, we show how IBMCP research impacts everyday life and the future of agriculture.
Science does not end in the laboratory. At a research centre such as the Institute for Plant Molecular and Cellular Biology, generating knowledge is only part of the process: sharing it with society in a rigorous, accessible and approachable way is also a fundamental responsibility.
The IBMCP Outreach Committee was created with the aim of bringing scientific research closer to the public, promoting scientific culture and contributing to a better informed, critical and participatory society. Science is part of our daily lives —from food and agriculture to health, the environment and sustainability— and understanding how scientific knowledge is generated is key to addressing the major challenges of the present and the future.
At IBMCP, we work to communicate science in a clear, engaging and evidence-based way, showing not only scientific advances, but also the value of research work, the importance of innovation and the impact that public research has on people’s lives.
The Committee promotes and coordinates activities aimed at diverse audiences: students, teachers, the media, institutions and the general public. These include workshops, talks, visits, participation in science fairs and events, the creation of outreach content, activities in educational centres, and actions in the media and on social networks.
Scientific outreach is also an essential tool for inspiring scientific vocations, especially among younger generations, by promoting diverse role models and fostering interest in science, technology and research.
We believe in open, accessible science committed to society. Because scientific knowledge reaches its true value when it is shared.
The IBMCP Outreach Committee is made up of six elected members and one representative from the Management Board.
