Representatives of the Plants for the Future European Technology Platform (Plant ETP) toured the institute and gave a seminar on how European research and innovation priorities are defined.

Last week, IBMCP welcomed Natascha Weinberger and Germán Vighi from Plants for the Future ETP (Plant ETP), the Brussels-based platform that brings together academia, industry and farming organisations. Its aim is to promote plant innovation and help shape European research and innovation priorities.

On Thursday 29 October, Germán Vighi gave the seminar “Beyond the laboratory: how plant innovation priorities are shaped in Europe” in the Aula de Máster. He presented Plant ETP’s role in European strategic agendas and its work on new genomic techniques (NGTs), the bioeconomy and future partnerships. He also discussed the trends that will shape plant research in the coming years and how research institutes, universities and companies can take part in, and influence, these agendas.

The seminar drew an excellent turnout and strong participation from students and researchers. During the visit, Plant ETP also met with researchers at the centre and learned first-hand about the institute’s research, noting its strong connection between fundamental and applied science.

IBMCP thanks Plant ETP for the visit. The discussions highlighted shared interests and possible avenues for collaboration, including joint participation in European projects, and the institute will consider joining the platform.
