The Institute for Plant Molecular and Cellular Biology (IBMCP, UPV-CSIC) is participating in the organization of the outreach event “From seeds to medicines: How plants are becoming the superfactories of the future”. This event will take place on May 14th, within the framework of the 7th Conference of the International Society for Plant Molecular Farming (ISPMF 2026).
The activity is primarily aimed at high school students and early-stage university students (1st and 2nd year in Biology, Biotechnology, Biochemistry, Agricultural Engineering, or related fields). Its goal is to bring plant biotechnology closer to students through a dynamic format. The session will begin with microtalks given by international researchers Julian Ma (St George’s, University of London) and Nicole Steinmetz (University of California, San Diego), alongside Diego Orzaez, a researcher from our own center (IBMCP), who will present their recent work in the field of molecular farming.
Following this, attendees will participate in a hands-on workshop where they will be able to learn about and apply the agroinfiltration technique. This method is one of the processes used in the laboratory to make plants produce molecules of interest, such as medicines or other high-value compounds.
Through this initiative, the IBMCP seeks to bring current scientific research closer to students, demonstrating the applications of plant biotechnology in a practical way.
The event will be held on May 14th, from 18:00h to 20:00h, at Auditorium of the IBMCP (Yellow Cube) at CPI-UPV (Ciudad Politécnica de la Innovación, Universitat Politècnica de València).
Space is limited. Registration is free and can be done by scanning the QR code on the attached poster or through the following link: https://forms.gle/ D8QsGyPxCqiaD6YU6
