About us
The Institute of Molecular and Cellular Biology of Plants (IBMCP), established in 1992, is a joint research center of the Spanish National Research Council (CSIC) and the Polytechnic University of Valencia (UPV).
Its main activity is cutting-edge, high-quality scientific research aimed at generating knowledge about the key processes of plant growth and development and their capacity to adapt to the environment, with the ultimate goal of obtaining more productive and higher-quality crops.
The Institute seeks to translate the knowledge generated into technology transfer to implement agronomic improvement strategies, increase the nutritional value of plants, and produce compounds of pharmacological and industrial interest, always under sustainability and quality criteria.
We work to remain a leading center in Plant Biotechnology, train people, promote excellence and research talent, and contribute to the integral development of society, because without science, there is no future.
Mission
To be an international benchmark in three dimensions of science: as a source of knowledge, a generator of progress, and a tool for improving agriculture, the environment, health, and well-being.
All of this through sustainable practices and the efficient use of resources.

Vision
The IBMCP addresses the challenge of ensuring food and resource security for a growing population.
We decipher the molecular and cellular mechanisms of plant growth and adaptation to the environment, applying them to sustainable and productive crop improvement.
Values
Liderazgo
Over its more than 25 years, the IBMCP has led the revolution in Plant Biology during the “genomics era,” driving key scientific breakthroughs.
This has enabled the development of more productive, resilient, and sustainable crops, improving their quality with more efficient use of resources.
Excelencia
The IBMCP is an international center of excellence in plant biotechnology, genetics, and crop improvement.
We foster continuous improvement and creative thinking, with a strong motivation to understand the biological mechanisms that enable more sustainable, high-yielding crops.
Innovación
Since its inception, the IBMCP has demonstrated dynamism and innovation, promoting scientific excellence in a multidisciplinary environment.
We offer institutions and companies advanced technology and first-class infrastructure to make a significant contribution to developing a new agriculture.
Sostenibilidad
At the IBMCP, we support the 2030 Agenda and contribute our research to the Sustainable Development Goals.
We design agronomic and nutritional improvement strategies that allow for the production of high-quality, high-value foods that are compatible with environmental protection.
