Metabolomics

Description

The Metabolomics service offers metabolomic analysis of plant samples by chromatography coupled to mass spectrometry.

ANALYSIS OF VOLATILE COMPOUNDS (GC-MS)

Volatile compounds from different plant tissues (tomato, strawberry, melon, citrus,…) are analysed by gas chromatography coupled to mass spectrometry.

The Service offers:

– Sample extraction.

– Targeted and non-targeted analysis. Data processing includes:

  1. Background noise removal, retention time alignment, peak finding and normalization.
  2. Statistical/multivariate analysis.
  3. Identification of metabolites of interest by comparing exact experimental masses (the service has approximately 400 volatile compound standards for unambiguous identification) and theoretical masses using the NIST database.

ABOLITE ANALYSIS (GC-MS)

Primary metabolites of plant samples (sugars, amino acids, organic acids) are analysed by gas chromatography coupled to mass spectrometry.

The Service offers:

– Extraction and derivatization of samples.

– Identification and relative quantification of metabolites available in the Service’s database (80 standards. Request a list from the Service).

TARGETED ANALYSIS

– Vitamin C

– Vitamin E (Tocopherols)

– Vitamin B5 (Pantothenic acid)

– Polyamines

– Nucleosides

ETHYLENE ANALYSIS

Customised analyses, fine-tuning of analytical methods: consult the Service.

Rules, applications, fees

GENERAL RULES

Steps to follow to request an analysis from the Metabolomics Service:

Internal users

1. Request the service through Gestcompras

2. Fill in the questionnaire available on this same page indicating:

– Brief summary of the experimental design
– Type of analysis requested
– Name of the samples and exact weight

and send to: aespino@ibmcp.upv.es

2. Once the request is accepted, deliver the samples to the Service.

3. The samples will be processed according to the request in Gestcompras.

External users

1. Fill out the questionnaire available on this same page indicating:

– Brief summary of the experimental design
– Type of analysis requested
– Name of the samples and exact weight

and send to: aespino@ibmcp.upv.es

2. External users will receive an order form, which must be returned signed and stamped. The samples will be processed once the order form is received.

3. At the end of the work, they will receive a delivery note, which must also be returned signed and stamped.

4. Next, the invoice will be issued.

The material to be analyzed must be delivered crushed and frozen in dry ice or liquid nitrogen. Check in advance the amount of sample needed depending on the type of analysis.
