Biografía

Jose Gadea is Principal Investigator at the IBMCP since 2009, when he got a permanent position at the Polytechnic University of Valencia. He studied Biology at the University of Valencia and got a PhD in 1997 by his studies on new genes involved in oxidative stress responses in plant-pathogen interactions. After his postdoctoral stay in 1999-2001 at University of Tübingen (Germany) and CNRS in Perpignan (France), working on genes involved in Arabidopsis early embryogenesis, he was recruited by the Citrus Functional Genomics Project at the IBMCP, to develop genomic tools for the study of issues relevant for citriculture. This pioneering project in Spain developed pipelines for high-throughput generation of expressed-sequence tags and generating the first citrus microarrays. Based on this background, his current lines of research focus in the use of molecular and genomic approaches to decipher biological problems in plants, most of them related to response to biotic and abiotic stresses. In particular, his group has two main lines of research: a) Seed science: understanding how seeds are developed, how they perceive environmental stimuli and why they deteriorate and die. b) Plant-pathogen interactions: understanding the mode of action in plant tissues of Xanthomonas citri and Candidatus Liberibacter, two bacteria that cause disease which results in heavy economic losses to the citrus industry.
